Went to ICON7 last week. These were my promos. The photo above was taken by Angelica Alzona (stalwart Volunteer/senior/illustrator) at the RISD ICONS alumni show at Woods-Gerry House. The fuzzy image in the background is my Mountain Man piece from the Times fiction blog. Making it about 4 times it’s original size did take it completely out of context… And while I’ve always told myself that illustration out of context isn’t really illustration anymore, I was really happy with how it looked. Not an uncommon rationalization for me.
I cannot thank the ICON Board and Staff enough for their efforts. Community among creatives and self-goverend career paths served as conceptual centerpieces to many of the workshops and discussions. Being back in Providence among new and old friends I couldn’t help but feel a bit of the truth behind the thesis.
